California Sun

I submitted a photo in a challenge this week and the shot had to be based around the sun.

I had to share what image I picked... this is one of my favorites. Everything about this - the sun, warmth, toothy grin and big eyes - make me smile.

Isn't she sweet?

I Heart Faces Challenge - "Anything but a Face"

Over at I Heart Faces this week, the challenge is "Anything but a face"! I sometimes join the challenges, when I remember, but the minute I saw this I knew I had some good shots... without a face!

I took this photo of this young guy - I was photographing him and his family and he wanted some shots of him with his guitar. I sent him down these train tracks and shot this as he walked to the spot I wanted him at. It ended up being one of my favorite's of the day.

Behind the Scenes: Editing

Second to my shooting style, editing is the key in my opinion. It's my favorite part of the process.
Before becoming a photographer, I had no idea how much work was put into the photo processing. Any photographers that read this can relate, but for those that don't know, here is a little behind the scenes - the Bumble way.

Most don't know that I'm self taught. No professional training - everything I know was learned by reading, watching and communicating with great photographers, some that can be found in my inspiration tab above. Some photographers are "hush hush" about tips but there are the few, like the incredible Lindsay Horn, who helped me along the way. She is awesome to say the least and her work is incredible. I can say that here because she's hundreds of miles away in Texas. ;)
I strictly use PhotoshopCS3 for editing for Bumble images and am in the process of switching to PhotoshopCS5 (woohoo!). If you follow Bumble at all, you'll see that I love light, colorful images and my style varies from vintage/soft to bold colors. I love them both, so why choose one or the other?
I am always learning new things, this being the case because Photoshop is a software offering endless techniques.

You see the end result on the Facebook page, web-site or blog... but I'm going to let you in on some 'before' images. First time I'm ever showing these to the outside world. :)

Now you see why you would use a professional photographer. Photographing is one thing, but post processing is the icing on the cake. What good is the cake without the icing? :) Not as sweet, that's for sure.
More behind the scenes to come!

I Heart Faces Challenge - Heart

This week over at I Heart Faces - Photography community - the photo challenge is "hearts". I haven't participated in a challenge for I Heart Faces in months, but I knew I had the perfect image for this week.

I did a maternity session with my Sister-in-law in Laguna Beach, CA. First pregnancy, first baby... this mommy's heart was already stolen.

If you want to join in the fun, whether you're a seasoned photographer or take pictures for fun - click the below button. Or just stop by to see the other entries... good shots!

Mini Session - Sofia is turning ONE

Quick mini session was on the agenda for my niece, Sofia. She is the sweet baby with long eyelashes, bright smiles and a very loud voice. :) Reminds me of her Mama but stubborn like her Grandma.

Being an Auntie is the best of both worlds. You can "mother" them, spoil them rotten, give them Diet Coke behind their mom's back and cuddle them but the minute they get cranky, off to mom they go.

I photographed her birth...
(That's me in the center photo, holding her minutes after she was born... hair uncombed, sleepy eyes but a proud Aunt!)
Now, that sweet baby is walking and running, trying to talk and getting into mischief. Photographing her laughing, running and drooling makes this heart smile.

 Happy Birthday to Sofia!

Laughter is the best medicine

The most wasted of all days is one without laughter.  ~e.e. cummings

Strange things happen often in this "town" called Orange County, but I never seem to have my camera in hand to document it... today was not one of those days. Luckily I was in the middle of a session, camera in hand. This sweet little lady walked up to us and asked if we wanted to join them, a group laughing and jumping around. She went on to describe what they were doing and how much it helps their health, all while grinning from ear to ear.... She turned to leave and the back of her shirt made me smile.

Laughter is contagious... I did have a good laugh but didn't have to join the club! lol

Bumble Blog - Starting Fresh

I am a regular blogger, personally and used to blog regularly with Bumble, but after getting a new logo and website, I had to put the blog on the back burner and take one thing at a time.

I decided to get a temporary blog up so I can share all the good things happening for Bumble.
On here you'll see more photos from sessions and details and what I thought about each individual session... I may even add in some funny bloopers that you won't see on the website or Facebook page.
I'll leave you with a photo, because what's a photography blog without a photo? I recently made a purchase for the wee Bumble clients and I'm anxious to use this quirky tool this weekend. via Happy Acres.

Rock On!

This is Down to Earth - An up and coming christian band... I love how these turned out!

Sneak Peek!

Family of Four...

Beautiful family... everyone was all smiles... almost everyone. Little Ella didn't like the camera in her face. After pulling out the zoom lens she loosened up and we got some smiles and a few giggles.

Daniel - Three Year Old Session

Little Daniel turned three and I was more than happy to photograph this rambunctious boy. We played ball, ate candy and blew bubbles... and picked up sticks. I think he was planning on building a fort after the session with all the sticks he gathered. haha

Fun fun fun.

Toothy Sneak Peek

Nothing like a big toothy grin...

Enjoy this sneak peek from a session this past weekend. ;)

More to come...

Sofia & Cristian - Newborn/Children Session

Sweet Sofia.

I showed shots from Sofia's birth a few weeks back and here she is all cleaned up for the camera.

Wide-eyed innocent newborn girl who has stolen my heart.

Big brother Cristian snuck in for a couple of shots and these turned into some of my all-time favorites. Love them.
